Things To Do - Angel and Islington
We have bundled Angel and Islington into one blog post. This post will cover the area around Angel and the canal as well as the area to the north of Highbury and Islington. We uncover a few gems, some street art which makes for an awesome day exploring.
beautiful squares and streets
One of the things that will strike you about Angel and Islington is the beautiful streets and squares. The likes of Notting Hill and Chelsea are renowned for lovely streets but we think Angel matches both of these places.
We would recommend getting off the main road and walking along the High Street and Camden Passage to kick off your walk. Then double back on yourself to Colebrooke Row and the Duncan Terrace Gardens. Here you'll find a rather cool bird nest installation. Then proceed to Canonbury Square or to the Canal.
The canal restarts at the end of the Islington Tunnel, which you can access near the Duncan Terrace Gardens. If you want to explore the waterway we would recommend following our Tramble to Broadway Market, which you can find below.
highbury fields and around
Looking further north you have the lovely Highbury Fields and Arsenal Football Ground. We would also recommend trying to find the Highbury Clock!
where to eat and drink in angel and islington
There are so many options for food and drink along the main road between Angel and Highbury & Islington. It is very difficult to pick the best spots but we will try...
Our favourite pubs in the area starts off with The Joker (58 Penton St, London N1 9PZ | Website), excellent for craft beers and their pub quiz, The Taproom (163 Upper St, London N1 1US | Website) and for a bit of history, The Old Red Lion (418 St John St, Clerkenwell, London EC1V 4NJ | Website) with it's plays in their upstairs room.
For food we also try and go off the beaten track in Angel. There are so many restaurants available that it is a little rude not to try a different cuisine. Our favourites are the Afghan Kitchen (35 Islington Green, London N1 8DU | Website) and Little Georgia (14 Barnsbury Rd, London N1 0HB | Website).
