Things To Do - Hackney
Vibrant Hackney has plenty going on and has something to offer pretty much anyone. In this post we are mainly talking about the areas around Hackney Wick Station and Hackney Central, if you want more on the Borough of Hackney there are other posts around for that. If we were making a day of it, this would be the plan we follow.
hackney street art
If you are a street art aficionado then the area around Shoreditch and Brick Lane will be well known to you. There is also a strong street art presence in the area around Hackney Wick Station. Perhaps not as structured or well known it is still fun to walk around the developing area seeing what the latest innovations are.
If you can squeeze in a canal walk there is also plenty of street art to see. Our Canal Tramble from Broadway Market to Hackney Wick or vice versa sees the best of this.
Hackney City Farm
Just south of the canal is the Hackney City Farm. Apart from the animals we reckon the farm is a great, quirky date spot to impress your other half. The farm put on weekly pottery and mosaic classes in the evenings - there is more on that here.
London Fields Lido and broadway market
On a nice summers day buy a disposable BBQ and head to London Fields, just north of Broadway Market. You can BBQ on the fields before heading to the Lido to swim it all off. More information on the Lido here.
After all of that wander along Broadway Market with it's artisan stalls and bakeries. Pretty idyllic day that.
No visit to this area of Hackney is complete without a trip to the gorgeous Victoria Park and the Victoria Park Village. We suggest grabbing a Boris Bike/Sadiq Cycle from Broadway Market to get across before relaxing in the park.
Make sure you pay a visit to the Village to the north of the park. The Lauriston (162 Victoria Park Rd, London E9 7JN | Website) and Hector and Noble (233-235 Victoria Park Rd, London E9 7HD | Website) are both good choices for a drink.
While you are at the park you might want to play 9 holes of mini-golf on the Plonk Golf course. These guys know how to run a mini-golf course with sites across the capital. More here.
Food and Drink in Hackney
We don't have the most comprehensive knowledge of where to eat and drink in Hackney, as something new and exciting seems to pop-up on a weekly basis. From the places we have been we would say Number 90 (90 Wallis Rd, London E9 5LN | Website) and Grow (Main Yard, 98C Wallis Rd, London E9 5LN | Website) are your best bets near Hackney Wick Station. They both have waterside balconies so perfect for beers in the sun!
One special mention must go to The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities (11 Mare Street, London E8 4RP | Website) which houses a museum and equally interesting cocktail bar. For a date it is a great location.
Tramble in Hackney
We have a whole bunch of Trambles in the area - exploring the canals, Victoria Park, Hoxton, Hackney Central or London Fields. Even Stoke Newington and Dalston further afield. Click below for more on them.
